Das lange Osterwochenende haben wir diesmal in den Cairngorms und einem Abstecher nach Aberdeen verbracht. Die Cairngorms sind Teil des gleichnamigen Nationalparks in den schottischen Highlands. In den Cairngorms liegt eines der schoensten Skigebiete Schottlands.

We spent the long Easter weekend with a trip to the Cairngorms and Aberdeen. The Cairngorms are part of the Cairngorms National Parl in the Scottish Highlands. You can find one of Scotland’s finest Ski Resorts here.

Nach den Cairngorms ging es ueber den Whiskytrail nach Aberdeen, einer Hafenstadt an der Nordsee. Der Whiskytrail fuehrt innerhalb von 100 km an mehr as 12 Destillerien vorbei.

We left the Cairngorms torwards Aberdeen, driving along the Whisky Trail where you can visit more than 12 distilleries within a radius of 100 km.

Das schoene Wetter muss ausgenutzt werden und daher sind wir einfach nur in Stirling und Bridge of Allan auf Fotojagd gegangen.

Another lovely autumn day which made go outside and take some pictures of Stirling and around Bridge of Allan.

Heute haben wir einen Ausflug zu den Kelpies gemacht. Die Kelpies sind 30m hohe Pferdekoepfe, sie in der Naehe des Forth and Clyde Kanals stehen. Kelpies haben nach der Mytologie die Kraefte von 10 Pferden und stehen stellvertretend fuer die schottischen Arbeitspferde die damals in der  Industrie eingesetzt wurden um Waggons, Karren, Barken und Kohleschiffe auf dem Kanal zu ziehen.

Today we went to see the Kelpies at Falkirk. The Kelpies are 30-metre high horse-head sculptures, standing next to a new extension to the Forth and Clyde Canal, and near River Carron. The Kelpies are a monument to horse powered heritage across Scotland. The Kelpies name reflected the mythological transforming beasts possessing the strength and endurance of 10 horses; a quality that is analogous with the transformational change and endurance of Scotland’s inland waterways. The Kelpies represent the lineage of the heavy horse of Scottish industry and economy, pulling the wagons, ploughs, barges and coalships that shaped the geographical layout of the Falkirk area.

Heute sind wir nach Buchanty gefahren, einem seeeehr kleinen Ort in der Region Perthshire and Kinross. Der Ort ist auf keiner Karte eingezeichnet und ist eigentlich auch nicht wichtig, aber kurz vor dem Ort gibt es mitten im Wald eine Stelle, wo man Lachse auf ihrer Wanderung Fluss  aufwaerts beobachten kann. Heute war es zwar sehr bewoelkt, aber da es gestern und vorgestern geregnet hatte, war der Zeitpunkt guenstig. Wir hatten auch echt Glueck und haben einige Lachse wandern gesehen.

Today we went to Buchanty, a veryyyy small town in the Perthshire and Kinross region. Buchanty itself is not really of interest, but outside the town and in the middle of the woods is a location where you watch salmons leaping up the river. It was amazing. We took some pretty nice shots. Unfortunately it was a bit dreary so the colors did not come out very well.

Dieses Mal hat uns die Reise an den Atlantik, nach Oban gefuehrt. Oban (gaelisch: An t-Òban) ist eine kleine Stadt in der Region Argyll und Bute. Von Oban gehen Faehrverbindungen zu vielen der schottischen Atlantikinseln. Selbstverstaendlich gibt es auch ein Distillerie in Oban, die wir natuerlich auch besucht haben. Neben einem kleinen Stadtrundgang haben wir auch den McCaig Tower erkundet.

This time we went to the Atlantic Ocean to visit the small town of Oban (gaelic: An t-Òban). Oban is located in the Argyll and Bute region and is a well known location as a ferry harbor to most of the scottish atlantic islands.

Das Edinburgh Tattoo Festival ist eine jaehrliche Parade von Bands und Gruppen aus vielen Laendern der Erde die auf der Burg Edinburgh statt findet. Jedes Jahr steht unter einem anderen Motto und 2014 war das Motto “Our Home, Friends and Family”. Es war ein grossartiges Erlebnis. So viele Farben und unterschiedliche Gruppen, Bands und Auffuehrungen. Naechstes Jar sind wir wieder dabei!

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an annual series of Military tattoos performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealht and International military band and display teams on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.

Wie der geograpisch begeisterte Leser vielleicht schon heraus gefunden hat, wohnen wir “in der Mitte”. Rechts (fuer Experten: im Osten) ist die Nordsee. Links (fuer Experten: im Westen) ist der Atlantik. Wir brauchen ungefaehr 1,5 Stunden bis wir am jeweiligen Meer sind. Der erste Ausflug fuehrte uns nach Pittenweem, dass in der Region Fife of Forth liegt, direkt an der Nordsee. Zum Lunchen sind wir nach St. Monars gefahren wo wir ein super Fisch Restaurant mit Terrasse aufs Meer gefunden haben.

As the geographically experienced reader already knows, we live “right in the middle”. On the right side (for experts: East) we have the North Sea. On the left side (for experts: West) we have the Atlantic Ocean. We just need 1,5 hours to reach each of it. For our first trip we went to Pittenweem, a little town in the Fife of Forth, right at the North Sea. For Lunch we went to St. Monars where we found a great seafood restaurant with a terrace looking over the sea.

Der naechste Ausflug an die Nordsee fuehrte uns nach unten rechts (fuer Experten: sued-oestlich) von Edinburgh, nach North Berwick. North Berwick, Gaelisch: Bearaig a Tuath) gehoert zur Region East Lothian. Einige der schoensten Straende Schottlands befinden sich hier (was nicht heisst, dass man dort baden kann .. ).

Next time we wen to Norht Berwick. North Berwick (gaelic: Bearaig a Tuath) is part of East Lothian. Some of the nicest beaches are in East Lothian, but you cannot swim on all of them.

Am zweiten August Wochenende haben wir unsere Freunde Johanne und Robert in York getroffen. York ist eine sehr schoene historische Stadt ungefaehr auf der Mitte zwischen Wales und Schottland. Wir sind auf den Tower gestiegen und dann die komplette noch erhaltene York Stadtmauer abgelaufen, nur unterbrochen von einigen ‘light refreshments’ in den oertlichen Pubs, die leider sehr zahlreich waren … Wir sind durch den ganzen Stadtkern gelaufen, besonders nett sind die Shambles, die kleinen Gassen von York mit netten Shops und .. ja! Pubs 🙂

Sonntag hat es leider geregnet und wir waren fuer einige Stunden im Pub gefangen! Es war das most haunted pub in York und beim Lesen der Geschichte des ‘Golden Fleece’ wurde es einem richtig unheimlich! Natuerlich hat auch der traditionelle Sunday Roast nicht gefehlt an diesem Tag.

York war wirklich eine Reise wert — seht selbst!

We met our dear friends Johanne and Robert in York the second weekend of August. York is a lovely historic little town in the middle between Wales and Scotland. We went up the Tower and then walked the entire city wall. Of course we had to take frequent breaks in one of the local pubs which were just beautiful! Wir walked the Shambles, the small little streets of York full of shops and restaurants.

Unfortunately we really had british weather on Sunday and were trapped in a pub! Awful! The Golden Fleece is the most haunted pub in York and when we read the history of it we were really scared! Sure enough we had a lovely Sunday Roast lunch which was just fantastic.

It was really worth to go and visit York — take a look at the pictures and decide yourself!

Fuer 4 Tage kamen uns Britta und der Duke von Buende besuchen. Wir hatten jede Menge Spass und die beiden haben viel gesehen! Unter anderem haben wir die Glengoyne Distillery besichtigt und sind zur Ostseite des Loch Lomond’s gefahren.

We had more visitors from Germany. Britta and the Duke of Buende came over for a 4 day visit. We had a lot of fun and they managed to see a lot of Scotland in the short time. We also went to visit the Glengoyne Distillery.

Letzten Sonntag haben wir eine Wanderung zum Wallace Monument gemacht und sind auch die 246 Treppen nach oben gestiegen.

Last Sunday we walked up to the Wallace Monument. 246 steps until the top with a wonderful view!
