Gestern hatten wir die erste Hausbesichtigung. Das Haus sah im Internet richtig nett aus (für diejenigen, die die Häuserliste haben, es ist das grüne Haus ganz oben rechts ..). Wir haben uns dort also mit der Maklerin verabredet und schon beim Suchen der Strasse kamen uns erste Zweifel, aber na ja .. nie nach dem äusserem urteilen, nicht wahr?! 🙂 Das hätte dieses Mal allerdings keinen Unterschied gemacht, das Innere des Hauses war noch viel schlimmer …

Die Makler sagte: Eine sehr ruhige Gegend hier … in der Zeit, wo wir da gewartet haben, fuhr ca. 23 mal die Polizei und Rettungswagen vorbei (die Polizei hatte wohl sowieso oft in dieser Gegend zu tun).

Die Maklerin sagte: Alles frisch gemacht im Haus … das hat sich aber wohl nur auf die frischen Farbflecken im Teppich bezogen. Woher die anderen Flecken gekommen sind, wollten  wir gar nicht wissen …

Das Haus war ein Albtraum in dunkel und dreckig … aber dafür war es recht teuer .. also ging es weiter mit der nächsten Maklerin und dem nächsten Haus.

Das nächste Haus sah von aussen super aus, tolle Lage, Garage, sehr gepflegt. Im inneren stellte sich dann heraus, dass es wohl leider etwas klein ist, weil wir kaum unsere Couch vor den Kamin kriegen würden. Also gehen würde es schon, aber man müsste dann immer über die Couch springen, wenn man in die Küche will. Super war allerdings der Garten, wo Marco’s Wunschgrill (derzeit ein Grill mit ca. 2 x 3m Grillfläche) perfekt gepasst hätte.

Heute geht die Haustour weiter und ausserdem macht Marco heute die Führerscheinprüfung .. dazu muss er einmal um den Block fahren und rückwärts in  eine ca. 23m lange Lücke einparken 😉

Yesterday we started our house searching. We looked at this house already in the internet and it looked very well-kept. So we met the realtor there and while we were looking for the right street we already started to doubt about the area, but don’t judge a book by its cover. However this wasn’t true this time, the inside of the house was even worse!

Realtor said: a very quiet area … while we were waiting for her at least 23 police cars and ambulances drove along (I guess the police know this area very well, though).

Realtor said: everything fresh in the house … but we guess this was just related to the fresh color spots on the carpet. We do not want to know where all the other spots came from ..

The house was a nightmare in dark and dirty .. but it was really expensive!!! So we changed the realtor and saw the next house which was actually great. Good area, nice house, garage, very well-kept. When we saw the inside, the house seems to be a little bit too small. When we put our two sofas in the living room, you have to jump over them if you want to go in the kitchen 😉 The yard was great! There was even enough place for Marco’s dream-BBQ (a BBQ which has at least space for 100 steaks 🙂 )

Today we will some more houses and furthermore Marco is doing his roadtest!!! He needs to drive one time around the corner and parking parallel ina very huge parking space.

Heute haben wir zuerst den DMV aufgesucht, um uns zu erkundigen, wie man den Führerschein machen muss. Nachdem wir alle Formulare ausgefüllt hatten, mussten wir plötzlich um die Ecke zum Schalter 14 gehen und bekamen dort Testbögen in die Hand gedrückt .. Nach ca. 10 min hatten wir dann die theoretische Prüfung bestanden und müssen nun nur noch zur praktischen Prüfung antreten und vorher zum 5 Stunden Pre-Kurs. Besonders interessant war der Seh-Test für $20, der daraus bestand eine Zeile zu lesen, die auf einem Zettel stand, der von der Decke hing!!

Morgen treffen wir meine Nichte in Woodbury und danach belästigen wir die Makler der Umgebung 🙂

Ach ja .. ich darf auf keinen Fall schreiben, dass Marco schon gleich Schaden angerichtet hat .. ist im Bett mit der Bierdose eingeschlafen und hat alles ins Bett und auf mich gekippt .. darf ich aber nicht schreiben …

Gute Nacht aus New Jersey derzeit .. M&M

First thing today was our way to the DMV where we just wanted to ask what we need to do for a drivers license. After filling out some documents we were called to counter 14 and got some test questions for the theoretical part of the drivers license. After 10 minutes we’d passed the test and now we just need to do the road test and a 5 hours pre-road-course …. We found it very remarkable to pay $20 for a vision test which was just a piece of paper with lines of letters hanging from the ceiling …

Tomorrow we’ll meet Ronja at Woodbury and after that we’ll start to bother the realtors ..

Ooops, I am not allowed to wrote, that Marco messed up the first thing .. he felt asleep with this beer can in his hand and the beer went to our bed and 0n my shirt .. but I am not allowed to write this into our blog …

Mit 45 Minuten Verspätung starteten wir in Richtung New York City. Bis 2.5 h vor dem Ziel verlief der Flug sehr ruhig, dann gab es einige heftigere Turbolenzen wo sogar die Crew auf ihre Plätze musste. Nach 8 h Stunden erreichten wir JFK von wo wir uns in unsere Hotel aufmachten. In den nächsten Tagen heisst es nun Wohnung suchen und alle anderen bürokratischen Sachen zu erledigen.

With 45 min delay we started to New York City this morning. Until 2.5 hour before our arrivel it was a smooth flight, then we got in some heavy turbulences and the crew also has to fasten the seatbelts. After 8 hours we arrives at JFK from where we drove to our hotel. In the next days we have to look for a home and do all the bureaucratic things.

Heute war es soweit, pünktlich um 8 Uhr standen die Packer von Hertling vor unserer Tür mit Unmengen an Kartons, Klebeband und Folie und ab sofort waren wir überflüssig in unserer eigenen Wohnung. Schnell waren die ersten Kartons verpackt, dummerweise auch mit Sachen die nicht verpackt werden sollten und dann von uns gerettet werden mußten 🙂

Gegen 14 Uhr war alles verpackt und nach 1 h Wartezeit kam endlich der LKW mit dem Container und es wurde bis ca. 16 Uhr verladen. Der Container wird von Kassel mit der Bahn nach Bremerhafen transportiert und von dort aus weiter am 30. März mit der Costco Melburne in Richtung New York wo er vermutlich am 14. April intreffen wird.

On schedule at 8 a.m. 4 movers from Hertling showed up at our home with tons of boxes, bubble wrap etc. From then we were needless in our own apartment. Quickly the first boxes were packed unfortunately with some things that should come with us in the aircraft. So we needed to secure them 🙂

At 2 p.m. everything was packed and after an hour the container arrived and was fully loaded after about an hour. From here it was shipped to Kassel and from there by train to Bremerhafen. March 30, they’ll ship it with the Costco Melburne to New York where it should arrive about April, 14.

Kurzes Update, soeben haben wir fuer den 29. Maerz unseren Flug gebucht. Wie so oft werden wir um 8:20 mit der Singapore Airlines (Flug SQ 25) nach New York fliegen.

Folks, great news from Germany!

Today Mona received her job offer which she accepted within minutes. Her starting date is April 20.

Now we have to prepare for the final relocation. Tomorrow we’ll order the container for all our stuff, which should arrive here at March 23. When all our things are loaded, we need to clean the apartment and are read to leave after that.

Our schedule is to book the flights for end of March (29-30) – this is ONE way, the final step into a new life!

Today we spent at Conneticuts shore. We had beautiful weather with a lot of sunshine, but a pretty cold wind.

I think I forgot to mention that we
1. forgot our luggage receipts at the airport when we did the check-in the day before we left and
2. Marco forgot his passport in the box when your belongings are scanned …

After a pleasant flight we’ve landed 45 minutes earlier at JFK. Marco changed his flight pants this year! Instead of a light darkgreen pants, he’s wearing a light brown pants:

Friends, we are back on the road, but this not a leasure trip, we have to bring all our things in well order before we move finally to the US.
